UGEBREV NR. 17

ROTARYMØDET den 22-11-2017

Mødested; Guvernør møde hos Herning international klub

Udemøde med Guvernør Pernille Bloch

Gæst: Guvernør Pernille Bloch

We enjoyed a dinner of roast beef after Per Lindved welcomed us to Herning International Rotary Club at the Scandic hotel. He extended a special welcome to tonights guests District Govenor Pernille Bloch and Assistant Govenor Jesper Holt.

The agenda of the evening was only partly in english, as the 3 other rotary clubs in Herning were in attendance. We sang; ’Here we are again, happy as can be’. Followed by the Rotary International Corner, fetauring the Group Cultural Exchange, where vocal training is less important and focus is more on culture and friendship. September 2018 we can welcome 5 rotarians from District 9650 in Brisbane, Australia. They will spend 4 weeks in our District 1450, hosted by 4 clubs; one week by each club. In March 2019 5 rotarians from District 1450 will return the visit and spend 4 week with 4 different hosts.

The 3 minutes by Gitte Grønne presented her family’s holiday in Tenerife in Spain, where 9 family member celebrated her mothers 60th birthday. Gitte showed us pictures of the balcony view and of the pool and beach, and most prominently of the all inclusive buffet of dessert, fruit and candy. Looks like they had a wonderful family holiday.

Our District Govenor Pernille Bloch gave us the news of her election to the municipality council in Holstebro for ’Konservative’ and as New Chairman Elect 2018 in Rotary Denmark. She will be the first female chairman as such!

Pernille continued to talk about the Rotary World President Ian Riseley who visited Riga in October 2017. He promotes less formality; ’You may take off your jacket, but no shorts!’ in true australian style. His symbol og logo stands for diversity.

She continued to talk about how we shall present Rotary to non rotarians. What makes you happy in Rotary? And hence promote Rotary. She pointed out what made her happy personally about being a rotarian; helping others and being helped, doing good and networking. She shed the light to the Help Foundation in Rotary Denmark that doubles our contribution, and Hans Østergaard from Herning Rotary Club listed 4 project that they have supported.

Last but not least Pernille stressed how well kept a secret it is, how important the Rotary International contribution has been in fighting Polio. We have seen an impressing drop in Polio patients over 32 years of involvement, no small thanks to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Pernille quizzed us, and there are to date only 15 new polio cases in 2017. Today we are very close to eradicating Polio worldwide.
