Multidistrict Denmark is active in youth exchange
Every year we exchange approx. 100-150 students with many overseas countries for one year. As a part of this exchange we receive the same number of students. In all our exchange we work by the rules set by Rotary International Code of Policies.
Below we have made a short presentation of our expectations.
Your students:
Multidistrict Denmark accepts students by age 16, but not yet 18, by Dec 31st of the year of arrival.
We offer insurance by Europæiske ERV, approved by Rotary International and complementary to the Danish Health Service. This makes it a good alternative to foreign insurance.
The arrival dates in Denmark are normally the 1st weekend in August or the 3rd weekend in January. The guarantee form will determine the final destination airport.
Students should bring 2,000 DKK (approximately 300 USD) for an Emergency Fund. The monthly allowance is equal to 100 EUR.
All documents should be sent electronically to the Assistant Chairman Inbound. We do not accept handwritten applications, and we need scanned documents of good quality. Applications should include a copy of the passport and a copy of the birth certificate.
To participate successfully in the RYE program and function daily, sufficient proficiency in the English language is required. Willingness to learn Danish is required from your students. Danish is the language spoken in schools.
The mandatory participation in our orientation camp is free of cost for inbound students.
Visa application is online except for fingerprints and photos, which can be done by a Danish representative in your country, or after arrival if students can enter Schengen without a visa.
Our students:
Unless otherwise agreed, your district accepts that our students are covered by the Danish Rotary insurance (Europæiske ERV). This insurance has coverage meeting all the requirements of Rotary International and is especially suited for exchange students travelling abroad.
We expect education and participation in mandatory orientation meetings to be free of cost.
In general
Rotary International properly certifies both sending and receiving districts. We use the Uniform Exchanged Agreement as designed by NAYEN.
All students sponsored for exchange have been carefully selected and adequately oriented. RYE representatives will personally interview applicants and their parents, and the orientation program will include, at a minimum, a discussion of program rules, expectations, support systems, intercultural adaptation and sexual abuse and harassment.
Students must be in good physical and mental health, with no history of medical or psychological problems (e.g. ADHD, Asperger’s, depression, anorexia, bulimia, etc.). Our experiences are that being on youth exchange is far too big a mental challenge for those categories of students.
At least two host families will be secured for each student. Host families will be appropriately screened, selected and prepared to ensure that they provide an appropriate and welcoming environment for the student. No family may host more than one student simultaneously, except in unusual circumstances.
Student application data must be held confidential and only accessed by exchange officers. All personal data must be deleted after the conclusion of the exchange. General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) must be followed.
